Every BBQ sauce in our database whose verified ingredient list contains neither tomato nor ketchup. Three traditions dominate: Eastern Carolina vinegar, Carolina mustard, and East-Asian yakiniku/bulgogi. Ranked by web-consensus rating shrunk toward the catalog mean. Method
We start from our sauce database, drop any sauce whose ingredient data is missing or unverified, then keep only sauces whose published ingredient list (a) has non-empty content and (b) contains neither "tomato" nor "ketchup", case-insensitive. Ranking is by Bayesian-shrunk web-consensus rating with a prior weight of 10 (a sauce needs roughly ten reviews before its own average meaningfully outweighs the catalog mean). Ties resolve on slug.
Note for buyers with diagnosed tomato allergy: always re-check the manufacturer's current label. Recipes change. Cross-contamination at production is a separate question we cannot answer from a label transcription.
